DO NOW: Can you name some of the roles in a court room? What is their job?
- FIRST, students will discuss the roles of a courtroom.
- SECOND, students will choose their roles and conduct their own case against the narrator of the "Tell-Tale Heart."

- Students will begin the Extended Response on the topic of the narrator's insanity, using the information from the court case.

- FIRST, students will complete the Extended Response Outline page.
- SECOND, students will write the Extended Response on a separate sheet of paper for a writing/test grade.

- FIRST, students will complete the following DO NOW as a writing prompt.
Do Now: Have you ever written in a diary/journal? What do you usually write about? Has your mood ever affected how or what you write? Why?
- SECOND, students watch a short video about the poem, "Annabel Lee" twice to answer the following questions: (1) Who is the narrator's lost love? (2) How did she die?

- FIRST, students will watch a music video for "Annabel Lee."
- SECOND, students will read/annotate the text, "Annabel Lee."
- THIRD, students will use the poem reading strategies (reading several times, defining unknown words, etc.) to understand the text better.
